Summer league
The Mount Gilead summer swim team will hold sign-ups on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Village Municipal Building.
Parents may register swimmers for the team and purchase pool passes at the same time. Team fees are $25. Passes vary in price depending on the type and may able be purchased at a later date.
The Barracudas practice at the Mount Gilead pool and compete against other teams in the TCAL League, which includes Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, Galion, Shelby and Upper Sandusky. Meets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Competitive swimming experience is not required, but young children will be required to swim one length of the pool unassisted or demonstrate the potential to master this by the first week.
“We can teach kids a lot if they already feel comfortable in the water and can paddle their way down the lane by themselves,” said coach Dina Snow.
Weather permitting, practices will begin the week following Memorial Day. Times will be announced based on numbers and ability levels.
“Last year, we held three practices a day to allow for a separate practice for beginners,” said Snow. “We will wait and see what this year brings. We encourage families to get involved. Summer swim team is a low-key, fun place to learn skills and be encouraged by improvement. It is a short season and will be over by July 11.”
